QUESTION: Hi my name is Kiley and I hate wearing make-up. I try to wear as little as possible but it always looks bad, I don’t like foundation or powder because it makes my face feel loaded down and very oily. I wash my face every morning and night and take off make-up before I go to bed. I don’t know what the problem is. How can I wear make-up and look like I’m barely wearing any at all?

HI Kiley, let’s take a couple steps back and start with your skincare routine. You mentioned you wash your face am and pm, that’s good! I am curious as to what you do next. Your skincare regime plays a role in your makeup application. If you start with over or under hydrated skin your make up will reflect that! For example if you are using a moisturizer that is too heavy to penetrate the skin thoroughly, it won’t properly absorb, resulting in a layer of buildup that sits on the surface of the skin. When you then apply your foundation it cannot bind properly to the skin and you are left with that thick, sticky, heavy make up feeling you dislike so much. So start with a good moisturizer. I recommend Skin Rx Clinic’s O2 Rejuvenating Day Crème.  It hydrates the skin with moisture binding Hyaluronic Acid, helps the skin to accept nutrients and fights free radicals. Not only will you hydrating the skin you are also preventing aging. Now that I’ve touched base on Skincare let’s get to your question. I am going to assume you have heard of mineral makeup. I am also going to assume you are only aware of the Powder side of mineral make up. I am going to introduce you to the Liquid side of mineral makeup. Mineral Secrets carries a line of mineral make up that is by far the best mineral makeup I have ever worked with as a makeup artist. I suggest looking into Mineral Secrets Liquid Mineral Foundation. It has a velvety smooth texture covers like a liquid and dries like a powder. It will keep you hydrated without that oily feeling and it is mineral based so it wears all day without smudging and transferring. It also has a natural SPF factor of 15 so you are protected from damaging sun rays.

QUESTION: I am new to your site and very hopeful you can help me. I am a 48 year old female who has suffered cystic acne since I was in my late teens. I’m no stranger to dermatologists, but nothing ever really cleared up my skin. I have been using Proactive’s 3-step system for about 7 years now and nothing has kept my acne more under control. Not even the prescriptions the doctors would have me use. A few years back I became concerned that the benzoyl peroxide (2.5%) might be the cause of some deep vertical lines I am getting in the hollows of my cheeks. I don’t know if it’s too harsh for aging skin. In addition to the deep lines, I have quite a bit of hyper pigmentation, whether it is from acne or sun damage. The tops of my cheeks are most likely sun damage (I have an olive complexion) and there are pretty deep holes where large cysts were at one time. I use filler for these before putting on makeup, they are so large. My facial skin has always bothered me, however, I’ve been able to make a pretty drastic difference using makeup. Lately though, this is not the case. The lines are deeper, hyper pigmentation darker, and the old scars seem to be drooping with the skin. The overall appearance of my face has taken on a kind of “wavy” appearance. I can only hope this is the result of so many different skin tones and that there’s a remedy for it. HELP! WHERE DO I BEGIN?

The good news is I can help!! It will however be a process and we will have to address your concerns individually! Your best chance at seeing a result would be a chemical peel. I would suggest Skin Rx Clinic’s Jessner Peel judging by the extent of the damage you described. Here is a link with a day by day documentary of a Jessner Peel: and here is an informational link from the website explaining exactly what concerns the Jessner Acid addresses! This is where you would begin…review this info and let me know what questions you have and we will continue from there.

QUESTION: I need some help with foundation & concealer? I finished my recent foundation and I need help finding the right color and coverage. My old foundation is not the correct color for me anymore now that it is summer and I am getting tan. I am looking for a new concealer and foundation and need it to be oil free, long-lasting, provide excellent coverage (I have spots and redness), and be easy to apply. I also need a good concealer to help cover the dark circles under my eyes. Any advice is welcomed, thank you.

Today is your lucky day, because have a solution for all of your mentioned concerns. First as far as foundation goes Mineral Secrets Liquid Mineral Foundation is the best I have ever tried! It has great coverage, a velvety smooth texture, it last all day, and it is a breathable makeup so it won’t clog your pores. It covers red/blotchiness like nothing I have every used and it is Matte so it absorbs oils. Just when you thought I described the best product on earth (which is exactly what I did) they also carry a Camoufleur Concealer that is a pliable concealer, meaning it moves with your skin so it won’t cake and crease into lines or pores, and it provides better loner lasting coverage than your traditional concealers.

QUESTION: I have pale skin with freckles, (really pale), most foundations and concealer are too orange and I’ve tried everything! Any suggestions on what makeup I should wear?

Nothing worse than that orange look from the wrong shade make up! So I do have some advice. I have been a make-up artist and skin specialist for a while now and matching skin tone is one of the hardest skills you have to acquire. So when I say I know what I’m talking about I say it confidently. Mineral Secrets carries a Mineral Base line of cosmetics. They have the traditional Loose & Pressed Base Minerals, but they carry a Liquid Based Mineral Foundation as well. And that is what you should be using. Advanced technology delivers all the benefits of mineral makeup powders in an easy-to-use hypoallergenic liquid powder. It has a velvety smooth texture and provides medium coverage. It is a breathable make up and will blend right into the skin without looking like you are trying to cover up your freckles. Mineral Secrets Liquid Mineral Foundation is also a natural sun screen (approximately 15 protection) with its Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide ingredients. As far as your skin tone the Liquid Base come in two colors that I am sure will match…Porcelain & Linen. I would suggest getting both colors to custom blend a color that’s perfect for you, but if you have to chose only one Porcelain has a pink undertone and Linen has a yellow undertone and is the lightest shade. I also suggest using Mineral Secrets Loose Porcelain Finishing Powder over the Liquid to provide a matte finish, oil absorption and ability to diminishes pores. If you would like to give your skin that sun-kissed glow without looking orange Mineral Secrets carries a Kenya Safari Bronzer that is perfect for the skin tone you have described. Using the bronzer will also help tone down the look of your freckles if you choose. This combination will be your savior…

QUESTION: What make-up should I be using and what steps should I take to get clear up my skin? I have acne prone skin so using things like liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer only makes my breakouts much worse. I need a skin clearing mineral foundation that could also be used as a concealer. Also How can I get clear healthy skin? I don’t want to wear a lot of make up when I go but I have a few scars too. What is your advice to get clear healthy skin?

My recommendation to you is Mineral Secrets Liquid Mineral Foundation Base. You get the same coverage as a full coverage foundation except it is a Liquid to Powder so you don’t feel like you have on heavy thick caked on makeup! Mineral Secrets Liquid Mineral Foundation is still mineral based so it will allow your skin to breath prevent pore clogging bacteria to build up and make your skin worse. If you still want a little more coverage you can get a Mineral Finishing Powder to put over the liquid foundation. As far as clearing up your skin you have a couple options…a good cleanser is a must (and it has to say it removes makeup or it doesn’t) plain and simple and if your face wash isn’t going to take your makeup off its also not going to clean your face! So SkinRxClinic carries a cleanser call Jojoba Exfoliating Cleanser. It is specifically formulated with Jojoba Beads, AHA’s, Salicylic Acid & Grapefruit Oil to remove make up, dirt & debris and impurities on the skin. Jojoba Beads are natural exfoliants that help buff away the dead cells that are preventing your anti-acne products from penetrating deep enough to clear up your skin. I also recommend trying a toner…SkinRxClinic also carries a Glyco-Lactic Toner that has worked wonders for my clients in the past! Its a mild, non-alcoholic toner. It contains natural, active plant extracts and AHA’s to gently exfoliate, soothe, clarify, and resurface the skin.

QUESTION: Hi I’m a 45 year old male. For the most part I have good skin, slight wrinkles around the eye area. I do however have bags under my eyes I think it is a hereditary trait. What can I use to keep looking young and to reduce the bags under my eyes?

Puffiness under the eyes is usually caused from fluid retention but can be caused by many things. Lack of sleep, hereditary, sun damage, stress, allergies and even food can cause puffiness…foods high in salt for example. The best way to address under eye bags is with an eye cream specifically designed for under eye puffiness. Eye creams are a good way to get rid of the dark circles, wrinkles, and under eye bags and generally hydrate and moisturize the skin around your eyes. Skin Rx Clinic Eye Bright Anti-Puffiness Gelee improves skins elasticity, firmness and blood circulation and repairs and restores skin that has already been damage. Eye Bright Anti-Puffiness Gelee is a super-cooling advanced peptide-packed gel that helps decongest and revitalize around the eyes. Cucumber and licorice extract help calm swelling and irritation.

QUESTION: If I turned dark from being in the sun, over time will I go back to my natural color? I’m dark skinned but more on the lighter side for dark skinned. Recently I have been in the sun a lot and have gotten a bit darker. I got a sunburn and thought that’s what it was but it’s not all my skin, mostly now it looks like discoloration. Will my skin ever return to its lightness and will it look less spotty? Or dose the pigment of our skin take on its surrounding to protect it?

Give it time and the pigment will come back. Here is what happened: as a result of being in the sun you body over produced melanin-this product discoloration at a cellular level. Eventually the melanin will decrease and return to normal. The reason it is spotty is because the melanin increases and decreases at different rates. In the future you will need to invest in a good Sun Protection to assure this doesn’t happen again. Make sure it is a physical Sun block and not a chemical sun block. A physical Sun block will contain either Zinc or titanium as one or both of the active ingredients. A chemical Sun Block will not have either of these minerals in the ingredients at all. A physical Sun Block reflects the sun’s rays so they never get a chance to penetrate the skin. A chemical Sun Block absorbs the sun’s rays until it cannot absorb any more and you need to reapply. Skin Rx Clinic carries a product called Advanced Protection SPF 30…and it is a physical sun block as well as having anti-aging properties.

QUESTION: I was looking at your site and would like to try your brand. I am not sure what shade of foundation to try. I am not as dark skinned as the model shown on your site. My complexion is more like that of Michelle Obama. Which foundation shade would you recommend? Can you also suggest some eye, lip and blush shades to try. I have normal/combination skin. Look forward to hearing from you!

I am thrilled you are interested in our products! I am a little confused however as to your skin tone. You say you are similar in color to Michelle Obama….Cocoa or Caramel would be what I would recommend for her skin tone. If you are lighter than I would go with Canvas if you are darker then I would go Espresso. You also have options…. Loose Mineral Powder- offers full coverage, sheer finish, Pressed Powder- offers a little more coverage and slightly darker pigments. We also carry a Liquid Mineral Foundation Powder that is to die for! It is one of my favorite products! Liquid Mineral Powder- offers full coverage, lightweight, velvety smooth finish, dries as a powder…you would be Almond. Mauvelous is our #1 selling Mineral Blush-this also comes in Loose and Pressed formula. It is the perfect blend of pink, peach ad berry. My personal favorite is Ginger- it has more orange/peach color to it. They are both really nice shades, its more preference of color. Eye Shadow- Flax is a must! It looks good alone or blended. It has a nude natural color to it and can be worn AM & PM. I am also a fan of Ivy, Haze & English Rose.

Loose Mineral Base- Pressed Mineral Base-

Liquid Mineral Base-

Loose Crushed Mineral Blush-

Pressed Mineral Blush-

Loose Crushed Eye Shadow-

Pressed Mineral Eye Shadow-*from+%2425!*

The Loose mineral Base comes in Try Me sizes. I would recommend starting with these, it also gives you the ability to custom blend your powder by mixing them together!

I hope this helps! Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with! Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns!

QUESTION: I have just run across your website for SkinRxClinic and was very impressed with the testimonials that I read. I have used Bare Essentials and Sheer Cover in the past and neither product did the job for me! I have rosacea, broken blood vessels on my cheeks, and I perspire a lot on my face. No matter what I use, I always look AWFUL. I am a licensed cosmetologist, so I am familiar with applying makeup. I am 67 years old and retired, but I have not lost the desire to look good. I also have moderate bags under my eyes and no product has helped to conceal them. I realize that you can’t make a “silk purse out of a sow’s ear”, but I believe there has to be something that can make me look just some better. No product that I have used concealed the rosacea and broken vessels. I hate wearing the creamy make-up because that causes me to be hotter and sweat that much more. I have even been to a couple of skin specialists and they more or less told me to live with it!!!! I’m at my whit’s end, I will be very anxious to hear from you, it is getting to the point that I hate to even go anywhere!

Hi Maye, you came to the right place! Being an acne survivor myself…I know a thing or two about feeling like you look “awful”. I also know what it’s like to have red, inflamed skin and feel absolutely hopeless! So let’s see if I can’t help put you on the path to healthy, happy skin! Before we talk make up, lets discuss skin treatment options. Some of my best clients suffer from rosacea and as a result we carry customize treatment plans specifically formulated for even the most sensitive, rosacea-prone skin. If you are looking for a treatment regime I recommend SkinRxClinic’s  Rosacea Kit #1: The kit will address all areas of concern you referenced and includes:

Arnica Face wash- Arnica repairs, calms & heals, Aloe Leaf Gel is soothing and cooling; Angelica Soothes and repairs; Echinacea is anti-microbial as well as anti-aging.

Willowherb Soothing Serum- this is a ultra cooling, soothing gel containing Canadian willowherb, clinically proven to calm redness and irritation while acting as an anti-bacterial agent. Vitamin K is added for its blood clotting ability and aids in healing and calming capillaries/blood vessels that have enlarged or burst. Vitamin K is great for darkness under the eyes too!

Skin Recovery- is a lightweight, non-greasy, hydrating moisturizer is saturated with ingredients to hydrate, moisturize and repair sensitive skin. Linden extract normalizes blotchy, red skin.

Visiblie Lift Eye Gel- The Visible Lift Eye Gel is an amazing firming/lifting gel formula with natural ingredients including Cucumber Extract and Firming Hydrators. Gently reduces puffiness and dark circles. Soothes and refreshes irritated, dry or dehydrated tired eye area. You can leave this gel in the fridge for extra anti puffiness benefits!

PVA Shammy- cleanses the skin with this cloth instead of harsh washcloths. Gentle on sensitive skin. Cleans great around the eyes and for removing eye make-up thoroughly.

If you are just looking for one “SUPER HERO” product…..SkinRxClinic has it! RosaPlex Skin Serum is just that…a super product! My clients who already have a skincare treatment regime and are just looking for a miracle product, RosaPlex is it! RosaPlex Skin Serum is specially formulated for the most sensitive, reactive, rosacea-prone skin. It is a clinically-proven, unique marine complex combined with Arnica Montana Flower Extract and Beta-Glucan, provides combined anti-inflammatory and skin-clearing effects aimed at helping resolve and prevent: flushing or redness that does not go away, small bumps, pimples or papules, dry or rough looking skin, dilated or visible capillaries, burning or itching of the skin, while helping lightly and gently to renew skin texture prone to dryness, visibly open pores and/or superficial irregularity.

If you choose only the RosaPlex serum and would still like to address the under eye bags, the Visible Lift Eye Gel is available solo.

Now that we have discussed treatment, let’s talk make-up. There is nothing worse than feeling and looking like you are wearing “too much” make-up. It’s hot, sweaty, uncomfortable and it looks bad! With that being said…there is a solution! Mineral Based Make-up ! I know you said you have used Bare Essentials and Sheer Cover in the past with unsatisfying results, but don’t get discouraged to Mineral Make Up all together! You are not the first client I have who was ready to through in the towel on the Mineral Make-up craze! While I DO recommend using a mineral base, I DO NOT recommend using a powder mineral base, they tend to cake up and crease into lines and wrinkles and actually do more harm than good. I would opt for a Liquid Mineral Foundation Base. SkinRxClinic’s Liquid Mineral Base offers a velvety smooth fluid and triples as a foundation, sun block and anti-ager. It features our exclusive, gentle and non-irritating multi-mineral complex, plus micro-diffusers to reduce the appearance of redness and or lines. And it dries Matte which will help absorb oils and reduce sweat.

So, you are correct….you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear….but it’s not time to give up trying!
